S.C. House passes Point of Sale Reform

April 7, 2008

South Carolina Realtors' efforts to address point of sale assessment made major progress last week, as the House gave second reading to H.3272 by a vote of 85 to 23 on Thursday afternoon. The bill still requires third reading on the House floor before it can go before the Senate for consideration. The House-passed bill postpones point of sale reassessment to the next countywide reassessment cycle, though we do expect the Senate to make significant changes to the House bill.

Thank you to all REALTORS® who responded to SCR's call to action urging the House to adopt the bill, as well as all members who personally reached out to their Representative. More work lies ahead of us in the Senate, and we will need your help again very soon.

The General Assembly is furloughing this week for the Easter holiday and will not meet in statewide session. The House will again furlough next week, and the week of May 4th due to operating budget constraints. Listed below are the results from Thursday's House vote, and we look forward to your help in the Senate in the coming weeks.

Please thank your representatives who voted in favor of this much-needed reform.
